Santiago currently has many problems due to poor planning of the city.

The extension of the city in low density brings many problems, as mentioned by Peter Calthope in his TED conference. If we look at Santiago, it is a clear example of this. The proliferation of housing in the periphery of the city has brought problems such as social segregation and excessive use of travel time for people using public transport. The first problem is evidenced by easily distinguishing the sectors of the city where the land has a much more expensive cost, in these sectors it is common to find large areas of green areas, many services, big houses, among other. In the other hand, if you go to the periphery you will notice that there are no green areas, the houses are small and the times of transfer in public transport are excessive(the second problem).

This way of making a city impacts, without doubt, on the quality of life of people. That is where the importance of political, economic and, above all, of professionals as urban planners and architects lies. Cities must be planned with a good urban design, with good access to services, interconnected with other urban fabrics, that contemplate green areas, that increase density, among others.
